Development Hours

All Texas teachers issued a Standard Certificate must renew the certificate by satisfying Continuing Professional Education (CPE) requirements of at least 150 clock hours every five years.

TCET has created Texas STARgate, a professional development system, to help Texas educators meet these requirements as they learn to incorporate the Technology Applications TEKS into classroom curriculum. Through Texas STARgate, teachers can earn the University of North Texas 5-STAR certificate addressing the five State Board for Educator Certification’s Technology Applications Standards for All Beginning Teachers. These courses are taught online.

Six Classes – each class fulfills 20 CPE hours

  • Teacher as Citizen: Surviving in the World of Technology
  • Teacher as Researcher: Basic Search Skills and Web Evaluation
  • Teacher as Problem Solver: Problem-Based Learning
  • Teacher as Communicator: Communicating in the Classroom
  • Teacher as Conductor Part 1: Planning Instruction to Integrate Technology
  • Teacher as Conductor Part 2: Implementing Instruction Using Technology
